4. When was the Last time when you look in the mirror what you saw?
I was Tired - All. The. Time.
I thought I was in the easy part of my life. I successfully raised two kids to fully functioning adults, I no longer had to book my weekends for baseball tournaments or dance recitals. My time was finally mine again.
But I was so tired. All. The. Time.
I didn’t want to do anything in all this free time I had! I spent the prior twenty years telling myself that once the kids were out of the house, I would drop the extra cushion I’ve been carrying around.
But because I was so out of shape, I barely had the energy to stroll through Target, let alone concentrate on an entire workout routine or diet regime.
Every time I passed by the mirror, I thought about all the things I couldn’t do.
And all the places I didn’t go because I didn’t want people to see me.

I even tried buying expensive workout clothes to motivate me to get to the gym. All it did was motivate me to lounge around in yoga pants that cost more than a fancy dinner.
I just had no energy to keep up with the commitments required for any of these highly advertised “miracle solutions.”
I couldn’t understand why these spokespeople and reviewers saw their excess load just melt away while every new diet or exercise program felt like 100% sacrifice and 0% reward to me.
These gurus love to tell us that we’re the reason we can’t lose any flab or keep it off.
...we eat too much junk food
...we don’t work out enough
... we’re not burning enough calories
... our genetics make us predisposed to plus sizes
...we have a slow metabolism
My sister-in-law showed me that it’s not my fault! I can change my life without drastically changing my routine.
I hear a lot about finding joy in diet and exercise...but to me that always felt like a sick joke.
Every diet just reminded me of what I couldn’t have.
And every new exercise routine reminded me of what I couldn’t do.
But this simple tweak was completely different. It started with something I loved to do every day (have a cup of coffee) and enhanced it.
